The godless Wellentians enter Sevalia from the
north. They were led by warlocks who ostensibly promised
fruitful lands to the south, but were actually fleeing from
the Andalors after losing the Mage War. The Wellentians
almost immediately came into conflict with the Ellicarians.
14th c.:
Wellentian magic defeats the Ellicarian Dalex. The Dalex
was a creature summoned by the prime wizard of the Ellicarians.
By defeating the Dalex, the Wellentians established themselves
as superior magicians to the Ellicarians.
14th c.:
King Colber founds his kingdom at Ascalis. King Colber
led the Wellentians against the Dalex. Now he could establish
a capital and reign as king. The capital was a sumptuous wooden
fort built on a hill. Ascalis was a town already established by
the Ellicarians.
15th c.:
Colbria brings Sevachelle valley under her dominion.
King Colber began a campaign of conquest, training his sons to do
the same. His sons completed the conquest as was their task.
The Maletrians, who had
been trading with the indigenous tribes, intermittently get
involved in the fighting. They refer to the Colbrians as ``Verentians'', after the Ellicarians
name for them (based on Wellentian).
First Imperial Period
15th c.:
The great grandson of Colber conquers the land held
by the Porelians. The Porelians
were related to the Ellicarians, but also had some Hovar blood
in them. Their gods were strange and aloof; apparently Dervidorn
prompted the Porelians to take to the sea on a permanent basis
whilst he himself withdrew into his impregnable abode at the Vault
of Loria. After this, a new king not descended directly from
Colber arises. He begins a campaign to civilize the Colbrians,
and is very friendly with certain Maletrians.
16th c.:
Maletrian Empire breathes its last breath as a unity;
Scadria and Rivardea fight among themselves; the Verentians seize
the opportunity to invade and enforce a peace. This doesn't work
until the old Colbrian king dies and is replaced by Tarcalis,
his diplomatic heir. This clever individual succeeds in creating
a peace by negotiating a deal between the parties. To punish the
two former Maletrian provinces, the Verentians levy the Grain Tax.
Tarcalis, once merely the king of Colbria, gets a former Maletrian
pontifex to crown him Emperor of Verentis and suddenly Colbria
starts looking like the new Maletrian Empire.
16th c.:
Vidarian War; the Wizard of Vidar makes a deal with
the new Emperor. Tarcalis was very good at making deals, so this
was just another feather in his hat.
16th c.:
The second emperor of Verentis has a decidedly more
militant aspect than his father. He renews wars of conquest
and starts with the petty kingdoms on his eastern border, the
chief of which is Halribia. He grabs the northern parts of
Halribia, leaving it a shriveled state around Lake Omenarcas.
Verentian borders have now reach the Druich Kingdoms of Goertha.
Second Imperial Period
17th c.:
Goerthan conquest. Later emperors continue a drawn
out conquest of Goertha, taking
each petty Druich Kingdom at
a time until the Somberflow Valley is securely held. Following is
a short period of peace and prosperity.
18th c.:
Religious upheavals. It is discovered by the
Verentian Clericate that Malladun favors the Goerthans.
18th c.:
Magic suppressions begin as a reaction to the religious upheavals.
18th c.:
The Mori invade from Targelon.
The rise of some powerful being (perhaps the Cold Sorcerer)
and his army of strange creatures causes a general movement of
people through Targelon. This time it is the Mori who seek to
plunder the civilized states.
18th c.:
Pallon separates from the Empire. Perhaps due to the breakdown
in communication caused by Morish infringements into the lands
between Goertha and Sevalia.
